"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies."

Our Story

A room without books is like a body without a soul.

— Marcus Tullius Cicero

Corey's Bookshop began in 1996 in a small town in Cheshire, born from one person's deep love of classical literature. What started as a modest collection of English and Russian classics has grown into a destination for readers seeking something more than the bestseller charts.

In 2017, we moved to our current home in Manchester, bringing our carefully curated collection to a city that appreciates the written word. Our shop remains intimate—a place where you can browse without rush, discover forgotten gems, and discuss Dostoyevsky with fellow enthusiasts.

What We Stock

A selection of classic novels arranged on an antique desk

Our shelves are home to the great works of English literature—the Brontës, Dickens, Hardy, Austen—alongside the titans of Russian fiction: Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Chekhov, and Bulgakov. We carry contemporary titles too, from Harry Potter to modern literary fiction, but our heart lies with the classics.

We take particular pride in our selection of rare and limited editions. If you're seeking a beautiful hardback of Anna Karenina or a first edition Penguin Classic, we may have just what you're looking for.

Special Orders

Can't find what you need on our shelves? We're happy to source books for you. Standard titles carry a small £2 service fee, while harder-to-find or rare editions may be £5-£7 depending on difficulty. We'll always give you an honest estimate before proceeding.

More Than a Shop

Cosy reading corner surrounded by literary treasures

We believe a good bookshop should be a meeting place for minds. That's why we host a monthly book club, bringing readers together to discuss a chosen classic over tea and conversation. It's informal, welcoming, and open to anyone with a love of reading.

We also maintain a mailing list to keep our regulars informed about new arrivals, rare finds, and upcoming events. If you'd like to stay connected, you can sign up on our homepage.
